I created my plate by using an ancient Italian technique which incorporated painting my leather hard pottery, shaped and smoothed, with color slip (preferably black). Then allowing for the paint to get dry, scratch the excess paint of your piece carefully using a carving tool. What makes a successful plate is securing the corners of your plate with more clay or slip. This prevents cracking or breaking in kiln.
To the right is my first attempt (testile) at sgrafiito. Unfortunately the bottom left of the piece cracked due to
a thin base. This was also in bone dry stage which caused it to be very fragile.
