To make my coil cup or vase, start with smoothing a decent amount of clay with a slab roller. Then smooth one side of the slab with a rubber rib. Next cut out circular insertion (preferably from a cup) from the slab. Keep excess clay for making coils. Then strip a small amount of clay onto the table, proceed to roll the clay in a round strand with your palms. Next curl your coil to precise size. Coils can vary in shape and size by curling them in different directions or into a different shape. I incorporated four different designs of coils. The most common design I used is the traditional circular spiral coil.
